Margarita Ruiz, an undocumented immigrant from Oaxaca, Mexico, hasn't seen her hometown since she nearly drowned trying to cross a river during her trek over the U.S.-Mexico border 14 years ago.
An immigration reform bill proposed last month in the U.S. Senate is giving Ruiz a cautious hope that she may visit her native country again - and perhaps gain legal status in her adopted one. But as debate continues this week in Congress, it remains unclear just what the new laws will look like when - and even if - they come to the President's desk.
